Tonight’s Top Topic: What should CMS cut to save money?
Charlotte-Mecklenberg Schools (CMS) is considering budget cuts. Teachers are the most worried.
Superintendent Peter Gorman has received approval from the school board for a budget of $351 million. It is the same as last year. The County Manager insists Gorman needs to return with a budget closer to $300 million. Gorman responded that 400 teachers may lose their jobs if 10% is cut from the budget.
Fox News Eva Pilgrim reported from the school board meeting, that teachers feel they will take the fall as more cuts are made.
Fred stated that many consider sports too important to cut because it keeps kids off the streets. Morgan said school arts & music programs could be cut but do improve kids overall performance and less likely to drop out. Fred suggested cutting peter Gorman’s bonus plan.
The Edge crew talked about sports programs in depth. Often the coaches are the role models for kids; success in sports could mean scholarships to college and since you can not play on a sports team without good grades it helps in their studies. Morgan brought up the four day school week. Also that maybe classes could be done electronically.
(As someone who works with technology for a living, can tell you how often schools and goverments do not make good use of today’s technology. In some other countries there are classes taught electronically in virtual classrooms either in whole or part, with great success. There are several states who have virtual classes and schools but could be expanded greatly. Additionally, administrative overhead is huge because of poor use of computer systems. Miss California is not Fired! Donald Trump has stated at today’s news conference (see Update entry below this one) concerning the semi-nude pictures of Carrie Prejean, that the “pictures were acceptable. They were fine. In many cases they were lovely pictures.” (Could we be discussing the next future ex-wife of Donald Trump?)
Morgan said “it just keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger….” Fred replied “Both of them keep getting bigger.” (At least people noticed her boob job) MoFo asked when will her 15 minuites be up? (Maybe when shows like The Edge stop discussing her?) Fred said she comes off like an idiot.
(Can anyone tell me who Kristen Dalton is? She actually won the Miss USA contest!)

Is it Jon & Kate plus 9? There are reports Kate is cheating with the bodyguard, Steve Neild. Kate denies it. (Does anyone ever admit to an affair without having a book to sell?) Jon Gosselin was previously rumoured to have been having an affair with a 23 year old teacher. Morgan said she is an addict of the show. Fred said Kate “annoys the crap out of me.”

It is Pet of the Week time. Piper is a chubby lab mix and was brought to the Edge by Gus of Project Halo. Piper seemed to like everyone especially fred. Very friendly four year old. Piper is available for adoption. Contact Project Halot for information.

The following entry is not from on The NewsEdge but follow-up to topics from past shows. Hence, Off the Edge. The comments are mine. Blame me….

Donald Trump held an expected press conferenc concerning the status of Miss California, Carrie Prejean. If you have been following the story on Charlotte’s Fox Newsedge, you understand the controversy that started during the Miss USA pageant. New semi-nude, more revealing pictures have been released in the last couple of days adding to the complexity.
The Donald has said Prejean will get to keep her title as Miss California and Miss USA runner-up. He explained that their exists racy photos but this is the 21st century. Additionally the problem with Prejean not responding to the Miss California officials was a “miscommunication” and has since been resolved.
Carrie herself spoke in a sometimes emotional speech. Her explanation for the sem-nude pictures was that the first was taken by a friend when she was 17. The other photos were taken by a photographer for a photoshoot but any nudity was caused by very windy conditions and those pictures should have never been released. If you look at the pictures (I have the rest of the pictures below) you will notice her hair barely moves which is NOT indicative of windy conditions. She also mentioned that these pictures were photoshopped so some of her speech is confusing. She also to confuse thinghs further, hinted that these were pictures taken between shots but she looks like she is in a pose for each. She also when asked about disclosing about the pictures before the pageant when she signed the contract seemed to complaign the contract was twelve pages long.
Carrie stated she is not working for the National Organization for Marriage. She said she would forgive everyone who spoke against her include Perez Hilton as her faith dictates. She will continue her duties and public appearances as Miss California.
Perez Hilton was never refferred to by name but by Judge #8. Mr. Trump stated Judge #8 scored Prejean very low although no specifics were given. From what had been released previously it would have not affected Prejean’s results in the pageant.

Tonight’s Top Topic: What should the government legalize to stimulate the ecomony?
Could governemnts avoid job and services cuts and help the ecomony if they stimulated with illegal vices?
Legalizing marijuana according to a 2007 study by Jon Gettman leader of the Coalition for Rescheduling Cannabis (the show reported it to be by George Mason University, but could not verify any such study released by the college. There was some of the same information released by Mr. Gettman who also was a former president of NORML or the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.) drug enforcement and potential taxes states are losing $42 Billion a year by keeping it illegal. Jobs could be created (anyone want a job as a taste tester of marijuana?) to save $8 Billion in legal costs.
Legalizing Prostitution was also mentiuoned. Nevada state goverment did vote down a $5 service tax on brothel patrons. It would have raised $2 million each year. The discussion then went to the video being shown which was a 25 year old film of street hookers in New York city.
Video poker was banned in 2008 in North Carolina but after a recent court ruling may return. Especially if the state can profit from it.
North Carolina is looking into allowing ABC stores to open on Sundays. It is the last of the old Sunday Blue laws. Opening ABC stores on Sundays could bring in $5 Million.
They had two people on the Edge Underground. One must have believed marijuana was already legal. He seemed high. The other was completly sober. Two extremes.
Fred stated he believes marijuana will be legalized at some point. But never prostitution because of the moral implications. Morgan replied that “a vice is a vice is a vice.” She went on to say if you’re two consulting adults and above 18, what moral implications are there? Fred came back with he was not saying it made any sense. Fred argued that marijuana does not lead to disease. (Fred, did you ever hear about lung cancer?) Morgan responded that if prostitution was legalized it would be monitored. She also said if you are going to legalize one you got to legalize them all.

On tonight’s Celebrity Apprentice Joan Rivers won $25,000 for her charity.

Tami Farrell

Donald Trump is deciding whether Miss California Carrie Prejean gets to keep her title. Expecting a decision on Tuesday. The Miss Calfornia pageant has named Miss California runner-up Tami Farrell the new “Beauty of California Ambassador.” Reports are Carrie Prejean has not made any required appearances and is not living up to her title. Miss Farrell was the Miss Malibu.

Carrie Prejean has also recorded a message for the National Organization for Marriage. The message is being used on a telephone campaign. Brotha’ Fred & Morgan both said it was “interesting” that this is the same person who, two days after the Miss USA pageant was at a party with a transexual.

Fred then said this will be the last Carrie Prejean story of the show (this show or always?) Prejean’s lawyer send a cease and desist letter to TheDirty.com demanding they take the semi-nude pictures off their website. The letter claims the pictures were taken when prejean was only 17. The pageant officials state they were taken post boob job so Carrie had to be over 18. The Edge had close-ups of Carrie’s breasts and panties. (Helped explain the story better.) The pictures were supposed to have been taken to help with getting her a job as a Victoria Secret model.

Playmate of the Year

Playboy has announced the first African playmate of the year. Ida Ljungqvist, 27 had been Miss March. She wins received $100 000 and a new Mazda 6 car.

Shirley Jones who played the mother on the Partridge Family tv show of the 1970’s is looking to pose nude for playboy magazine. Jones who is 75 would be the oldest model for the magazine. Playboy has said there has not been any talks with her. Nancy Sinatra was 55, Vikki LaMotta was 51 while Joan Collins and Farrah Fawcett were both 50 when they appeared in Playboy magazine.

Update – Miss California, Carrie Prejean

Seemed the only Comments people have posted the past couple of days is looking for more semi-nude pictures of Miss California, Carrie Prejean. Another picture was released earlier today as you see here. Her own PR person (another violation of the Miss USA pageant contract) has denied the new picture is really of her. Instead the claim is this one is a photoshop creation. Look at the picture. The one on the left is the one that is established to be Carrie. The image on the right they said is fake. You decide.

Tonight’s Top Topic: Do Misss California’s nude pics make you think less of her?
Still trying to comeback from her answer on gay marriage during the Miss USA pageant now pictures have surfaced of a topless Carrie Prejean. Carrie said in her answer “No offense to anyone” though Brotha’ Fred & Morgan say except homosexuals or the person who asked the question.
Miss Prejean Fred declared is now a member of the elite “Nude Picture club.” ‘The Dirty.com‘ blog site posted the first of what (I am sure are more) semi-nude pictures. Carrie was reported as saying attacks on her are intolerant and offensive. Morgan points out it seems kind of contradictory. Fred mentioned he loves that website (thedirty.com) which started in his hometown of Scottsdale, Arizona. He went on to show a picture of Miss Prejean at a party with a transexual. It was taken after the pageant at a New York nightclub. The Edge crew also showed pictures before & After Carrie’s breast implants. The Miss California pageant admits to having paid for the boob job. (I say Carrie Prejean is a boob job.)
While Miss Prejean has some support from the christian community, support appears to be diminishing. Christian radio host Ingrid Schloeter is quoted as saying “Simply Jesus is not enough. We augment the message of the gospel with flesh to attract admiration from the unregenerate.” (What? Who? Why? Perfect answer for a beauty pageant?) Morgan & Fred were equally perplexed by that comment.
Seemed most in the Edge underground think differently after seeing the picture. (I’ll hold judgement until I see the fully nude pics. Please send them to me!) Mofo said she believes you can be a moral person and pose in these kind of pictures. Carrie said she is a model, and models pose for lingerie and swimwear photos. Morgan points out that the pics were neither lingerie or swimwear. “You were topless.” “Covering your hands with your breast.” (That is what you said Morgan!) Morgan did correct her statement. (Hopefully you watched the show. It was hilarious.)
Fred said he didn’t think they were moral pictures. Reports are the pictures were taken when Carrie was a minor (17) and she was told they would lead her to becoming a Victoria Secret model. Morgan stated you have to sign a morality contract/clause when you enter pageants. Fred said the Miss USA pageant is becoming the nasty of the beauty competitions with Tara Connor and naked pics. Mofo said anything with Donald Trump.
The Miss California pageant authorities say they may take away her Miss California title. (Will they ask Carrie to return her breast implants?)
(I do want to say Carrie Prejean is getting tons of press. This similar publicity gave Vanessa Williams, another former beauty pageant contestant a big boost in her career. And ask most people especially here who actually won Miss USA. It was our own Miss North Carolina Kristen Dalton.)

Kara DioGuardi the newest judge will return to American Idol next season. Fred thought for sure she was done. He said she is “terrible.” Morgan said she likes her. Fred went on to say he likes “The original nucleus.”

Americon Idol contestant Danny Gokey it is rumoured is getting paid by Lenscrafters. He seems to have a new pair of glasses every show. Gokey also has flashed a heart shaped hand gesture just like in the Lenscrafters commercials. (Hey the judges are drinking Cokes because Coke is paying. Guess he wants his piece.)
During the discussion of the heart shaped hands, Morgan told Fred he has no feelings. She said she was kidding……

A recent study says teens who watch adult-themed television programs become sexually active at a younger age. The research said for every hour a 6-8 year old watches an adult program their risk of becoming sexually active early increases 33%.
Morgan said she recently came across the ABC Family channel showing the movie Dirty Dancing. (You know I never have seen it.) She said it was highly suggestive. Is that something “families” should watch together? Reg Taylor said from off-camera “That’s their slogan. Its a different kind of family.” Fred said watching the Edge is like safe sex for kids. Just look at him.

This week’s pet of the week was Wiley. Wiley is also called Bighead and was brought by Gus of Project Halo. He is a 1 1/2 year old Black Lab mix. (He being Wiley, not Gus!) He has some training and can sit, lay and is very trainable. And very good with kids. Contact Project Halo if interested in adopting Wiley.
Also it was announced that Sugar who recently appeared on the Edge was adopted by Brent and Kim.
