Off the Edge – Sunday 10 May 2009

The following entry is not from on The NewsEdge but follow-up to topics from past shows. Hence, Off the Edge.
The comments are mine. Blame me….

lorahum-1There was much talk the past week concerning the semi-nude pictures of Miss California, Carrie Prejean. Now another pageant contestant is facing allegations of provacitive pictures. Lora Humphreys, 22, is seeking the Miss Swindon crown. Never heard of it? Miss Swindon is a preliminary pageant towards the Miss England crown and onto competing for Miss World.
Lora has admitted modeling for pictures but says there was no nudity involved. She posed for Max power magazine. Miss England pageant officials had suspended Lora but after an investigation found the pictures had no violation of the rules reinstated her to compete. The allegations were made by other Miss Swindon contestants. There goes the friendly competition among beauty pageant contestants.
lorahum-2 Miss England pageant officials have stated after the investigation:  “It is not true – she has never appeared on any porn site ever. She has never taken part in anything to do with porn. “She has taken part in glamour shots, but that means different things to different people. At the end of the day she is still in with a chance of winning.” Officials did clarify that they would not exclude girls because they have appeared in “lad’s magazines” but Page 3 of The Sun (british newspaper) would not be allowed.
Carrie prejean is still being investigated by the Miss USA pageant as to whether she can keep her Miss California crown. Which do you think is more provacative? Seems the Miss England pageant does nto call these nude but Carrie’s Prejean were.

Maybe I feel like reporting on beauty contestants this weekend. Or maybe as a normal American Man just like posting their pictures. In any case we have yet anotheBeauty Queen Chargedr beauty queen to report on. Heather ‘Hedy’ Di Carlo, 36, who was  Mrs. New Jersey in 2005 was sentanced to a year in jail for theft by deception and writing bad checks.  The former beauty queen collected $71,000 worth of antiques, furniture, pictures and statues from a store called the “One of a Kind” antique shop. All paid for with checks that bounced over a six month period. The police offered to let Ms. Di Carlo off at the time if she paid for the merchandise but she refused and was instead arrested.
During her trial, Ms. Di Carlo said she only wanted to care for her two children ages 5 and 7. Her defense made note of her charitable work including her title as 2005’s Mrs. New Jersey. This was not the first time she faced similar charges. Twice before she faced charges for bouncing checks and drugs. The judge at her trial called her a “Master of deception” and “merely a thief.”
Maybe she should have gone to her trial dressed for the swimsuit competition?
