smokingTonight’s Top Topic: What do you think about the new law banning smoking in restaurants and bars?
North Carolina lawmakers approved a bill that will ban smoking in restaurants and bars. It will take effect in 2010. More than 30 states already have similar laws.
Morgan reports some business owners are worried about how it will effect sales. In other states with a ban on smoking, some did see sales drop while others saw an increase. There are many people surprised the bill was approved at all as North Carolina is the nation’s largest tobacco producer. Last year the state produced $686 million of tobacco.
Fred pointed out after a man on the Edge Underground said it did not effect him, that second-hand smoke (isn’t it second-LUNG smoke?) kills 53,000 people a year. The smoke also effects the health of waiters, waitresses and bartenders. Morgan brought up that in towns that have enacted similar laws, teenagers were 40% less likely to start smoking.

petrozza-profileFormer Hell’s Kitchen runner-up Lou Petrozza stopped by on the Edge. Lou said being on Hell’s Kitchen helped his career.  (Must have. It got him onto Charlotte’s Fox Newsedge.) He enjoys his work and is active with charities, Lou also said it has been less restrictive because he did not actually win on Hell’s Kitchen.

Tomorrow is NASCAR Day. (That does not mean you should drive your car at 100 mph on I-77) Fans of NASCAR will be wearing lapel pins purchased at nascar.com. Proceeds go to help kids in need such as summer camp or medical equipment.

Morgan & Fred discussed American Idol. Fred responded to Morgan asking who he wants to win by saying “I don’t care.” He went on to say “This is blasphemous, I will say it right now on a fox station, I don’t care who wins American Idol.” (Watch on Friday the Fox Newsedge show with Morgan and Fred’s replacement.)
Next wednesday on the Newsedge will be a look back on American Idol. Carolina Panther Jordan Gross will appear.

A company has come out with shampoo & conditioner that will give you really big hair. Their slogan is “It’s bleep’n golden.” (In case you thought Morgan said bleep’n instead of a swear word, bleep’n is part of the slogan) The company supposedly has no relation to Rod “Blago” Blagojevich. The product claims it has never been tested on animals. Probably was never tested at all…..

Morgan said she has as much hair as a horses tail.” (Notice she brings things often to the topic of horses?)
